An intuit study predicts that 40% of American employees will be 1099 instead of W2 by 2020. What does this mean for business? What does it mean for people with years of experience? This workshop will look at some of the changes that have been taking place and discusses where things may be heading.
My career has basically been divided between technical work and management. From a management perspective, I’ve been a principal in two startups that had successful exits, COO of a 100+ person consulting company, CIO of a public company, and ran a number of teams over 10 years at Microsoft including the cloud based billing infrastructure that underlies Office 365 and Azure and other systems. I’m currently the CEO at a new startup, Strenga, putting my passion as an entrepreneur into helping small businesses find professionals that they can trust at a fair price. On the techie side, I’ve been an architect at Microsoft, writing systems to enable community involvement, and also to bring our community-generated content to countries with minimal internet infrastructure. I’ve written 5 books on software development and team design and lectured around the world (though I still am missing Africa and Antarctica). I have lived in the United States, England and Israel. On a personal level, I spend my free time with my wife, Alee, and 3-year-old son, Ari. I also advise a number of startups that are mostly Seattle and Bay Area based.
